Peter Griffiths

Peter Griffiths is chair of Health Services Research at the University of Southampton where he leads the Health Workforce and Systems research group. He is a Senior Investigator for England’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), a status awarded to the most outstanding leaders of people-based research within the NIHR research community. His research and teaching focusses on “safe staffing”. A nurse by background, he has worked closely with UK and international health policy makers and contributed to the development of safe staffing guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the English National Health Service. His current research focus includes the economics of nurse staffing and approaches to determining staffing requirements. Peter is also Executive Editor of the International Journal of Nursing Studies, the world’s leading research journal in the field of nursing.
